LEED CERTIFICATION:

LEED for Homes:  We are pleased to announce that Canal Lofts has received LEED Gold Certification under the LEED for Homes Pilot Midrise program.  LEED, standing for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, was founded in 2000 by the U.S. Green Building Council and provides building owners and operators with an internationally recognized green building standard.  For more information, pleases visit www.usgbc.org.

High Performance Building:  Energy usage will be 21% lower than building code standards by utilizing efficient lighting, appliances, and mechanical systems paired with enhanced ventilation for cleaner, fresher air.  Units are tightly sealed creating a compartmentalized space, resulting in less air infiltration, a quieter unit, and higher energy efficiency.  A tan roof also contributes to a smaller cooling load in the summer months.  Energy Star appliances and energy efficient light fixtures were installed.

Environmentally Preferable Products Many of the interior surfaces used in Canal Lofts consist of recycled materials, low emitting adhesives, and little or no VOCs.  When possible, materials were supplied by local sources and suppliers.

Water Conservation:  High efficiency fixtures reduce water usage through low flow toilets, shower heads, and faucets.

Low Construction Waste:  Through diligent recycling efforts, over 90% of construction debris was diverted from landfills.  Pre-cut framing packages were utilized to also minimize waste.

Clean Air:  By sealing air ducts and conducting a pre-occupancy flush-out, the mechanical system was thoroughly cleaned before residents occupied the building. Better air filters and fresh air ventilation also contribute to the fresh air within units.

Sustainable Site:  By reusing an existing building situated in a dense urban neighborhood, Canal Lofts is considered a premium site.  Residents can take advantage of the urban setting by walking to several neighborhood services, public transportation, and area parks, all within downtown Worcester.
